Layover Hibernation

Well....I am in Paris...I do LOVE Paris but when it is COLD (20-30's) AND Rainy/ Snowy I go into hibernation mode on my layovers. I am only here for 24 hrs........I haven't slept the whole night before so I save my energy & money for pretty days---- or a crew that is REALLY convincing.
One thing I keep saying to myself EVERY TIME I come here......all 3 xs since I have been based in Houston (which is 4.5 yrs) is that I am going to brush up on my French. I took French in HS and minored in it in college......Um....yeah left college in '96 and French is not spoken so widely in the U.S. so, of course, relearning BIG TIME.
In Europe @ the gorcery stores, at least ALL the ones I have been too......EVERYONE brings their own bags....if you do NOT have a bag you have to buy one....they're not expensive but I forgot mine---- AND on that note I have the MOST AWESOME Andy Warhol bag PERFECT for groceries......If I had it with me I would take a picture but I do not (will when I get home)........
Ok.....so I am in line @ the grocery and I realize AAAhhhh NO bag!!! Ok.....I try to use as much French as possible which genereally gets me into trouble, because then they think either: A. I am French, or B. I DO speak French.......
I was rehearsing in my head before it was time for me to check out.........Aaaahhhh MY TURN......
Ok......
my line: Je n'ais pas un sac (I do not have a bag)
cashier: act on bluh bluh bluh bluh......un sac
me: (thinking maybe I can just carry this)--- c'est bon (sure...fine) (my standard answer to just about everything after I have no idea what they just said)
cashier: lifts sac
Me: oui (yes)
Actually this is a pretty nice bag...sturdy, etc....better than the ones I get in Amsterdam...I will add it to my Andy Warhol bag for shopping in the states----- I have no idea how much I paid for it, but it wasn't much---- worth it
So I come back from the store and FINALLY force myself to shower and nap......
When I awoke my computer had mutually taken a nap and I never received my log in information for my internet connection (supposed to be sent to your e-mail) and due to my computer's nap I no longer was connected.
This involved calling the 800# This is NEVER a good thing...........at least, USUALLY, in my room I can reach the front desk but none of my automatic buttons were working.............when I dialed 0 I received only a long beeeeeepppppp folllowed by a 2 tone beep. I am thinking this is nothing. Somehow I eventually push some random numerical buttons on the phone and get the front desk. Luckily 'The French' were in a good mood and helpful, and NICE about it--- they also helped me connect to room service which I will later get into---- I was completely helpless due to lack of automatic keys and no listed # in room service menu.
Ok....after I reconnect to internet and order room service...transfer back to front desk to give credit card#, then transfer back to room service talk to 3 different people and remind them not only of my order but that I am a crew member (for discount)......
YAY!!!! FOOD HERE!!!!
It was really good....and it did come with a roll.....but when I picked up the roll I knew right away that portion of the dinner would not be eaten.....not due to taste but due to the fact that at first I wasn't sure if it was a roll or a stone/ rock ornamentation. NOT KIDDING....there is really no way to show how hard this thing was but I am bored so started playing with it.
Does that show any sign of how hard it was??---- I mean the knife was perfectly comfortable resuming that position for as long as possible (much like the Sword in the Stone)

Then I decided that also if I need anything hammered @ some point during my stay it could be used like this:
So that has been Paris Feb 2, 2009 thus far..............
well besides the OBVIOUS facebooking and blog commenting

impressed that you had that conversation with the store clerk and left with what you were wanting :)

Laughing at the stone roll...and the Queen's Medieval Times Crown...that makes it funnier somehow...

I think Todd gave me the same Andy Warhol bag! I have seen several different versions, but mine is the red one with Jackie Kennedy's face on it (I was born on her B-Day). :D

This is a hilarious blog, by the way. Just what I needed.
